Privacy policy.
What we collect when you inquire, apply or join our network, how we use it, who sees it, and how to have it removed.
In short
- We collect what you choose to tell us through our forms and by email, phone or text, and the basic technical details any website receives.
- We use it to review your inquiry or application, to find and arrange introductions, and to stay in touch with you about them. Nothing else.
- Your answers are read only by our matchmakers. A potential match learns about you in general terms, and your contact details are shared only once you have both agreed to meet.
- We never sell your information or use it for advertising. Our website has no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies.
- You can ask us at any time to see, correct or delete what we hold about you: connect@thestandardfl.com.
Who we are
The Standard is a private matchmaking service in Florida ("The Standard", "we", "us"). This policy covers thestandardfl.com and the information you share with us through it, or by email, phone or text in connection with our services. It applies to prospective and current members, and to people who join our network to be considered for an introduction.
What we collect
When you send an inquiry
Your name, email address, phone number, age, location, the membership you're interested in, what you're looking for, and anything else you choose to write.
When you apply for membership
The answers to our application: contact details, date of birth, city, occupation, education and income; your appearance, lifestyle and habits; your faith and how important it is to you; your political views; your relationship history and family plans, including children; the partner you hope to meet; whether you are comfortable with your photos being shared with potential matches; your social media handle if you give it; and anything else you add.
When you join the network
Your name, date of birth, email address, phone number, city, gender, who you're interested in meeting, your Instagram handle if you give it, and your confirmations that you are 18 or older, that we may contact you, and that we may conduct a background screening. If you give us your Instagram handle, our matchmakers may look at your public profile.
During your membership
What you share with your matchmaker in consultations and conversations, any photos you send us, and feedback after introductions.
Background screening
The result of a third-party background screening, if you authorize one (see section 06).
Automatically, when you visit the site
Like every website, ours receives basic technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you request, and the time. Our hosting provider keeps this in short-term server logs to run and protect the site. Our fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so your browser also sends your IP address to Google when a page loads. We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking tools of any kind.
Sensitive information
Some of what we ask is sensitive: your religious beliefs, your political views, your income, who you're interested in meeting (which may reveal your sexual orientation), your relationship and family history, and your background screening result. We ask because these things matter to compatibility, and we use them only to find you a good match.
You choose what to share. Where a question isn't marked as required, you can leave it blank. We never sell this information, never use it for advertising, and never share it with a potential match except in the general terms described in section 05.
How we use it
- To reply to your inquiry and decide, together with you, whether The Standard is the right fit.
- To review your application or network signup, including any background screening.
- To search for compatible people, propose and arrange introductions, and refine the search based on your feedback.
- To contact you about your inquiry, application, membership or possible introductions.
- To keep our records, protect the people we introduce, and meet our legal obligations.
We don't use your information for any other purpose, and we don't make decisions about you by automated means. Every decision is made by a person.
Who sees it
Our matchmakers
Your inquiry, application and signup are read only by The Standard's matchmakers.
A potential match
When we believe two people could be a fit, we describe each to the other in general terms, such as first name, age, city, occupation and what makes us think you'd get along, so each can decide whether to meet. We share your photos only if you've told us you're comfortable with that. We share your full name, phone number or email address only once you have both agreed to the introduction. We never share your income, your answers about faith, politics or past relationships in your own words, or your background screening result.
Service providers
A few companies handle information on our behalf, only to provide their service to us:
- Netlify, which hosts this website and receives and stores the forms you submit. Netlify checks form submissions for spam, which can involve a spam-filtering service.
- Google, which provides our business email and documents (Google Workspace) and the website's fonts (Google Fonts).
- A background screening company, when you have authorized a screening.
When the law requires it
We may disclose information if required by law, court order or other legal process, or where necessary to protect someone's safety.
If the business changes hands
If The Standard is ever sold or merged, your information would pass to the new owner only under the promises in this policy.
Beyond this, we don't share your information with anyone. We do not sell personal information, including sensitive information, and we don't share it for advertising.
Background screening
We run a third-party background screening on every individual we accept into our network. It requires your written authorization, which you give by checking the box on our application or network signup, and we'll explain what it covers during your consultation or before any introduction.
We use the result only to decide whether we can accept you or introduce you. It's seen only by our matchmakers and is never shared with a match. If we decline you based in whole or in part on a screening report, we'll tell you, give you the name and contact details of the company that prepared it, and explain your right to get a free copy of the report from that company and to dispute anything in it you believe is wrong. No screening is a guarantee, and it doesn't replace your own judgment when meeting someone new.
Calls, texts and email
We contact you only about your inquiry, application, membership or possible introductions, using the phone number and email address you gave us. Our matchmakers call and text personally; we don't send automated marketing calls or texts, and we don't sell or share your number. Message and data rates may apply to texts. You can withdraw your agreement to be contacted at any time: reply STOP to a text, or tell us. We'll stop, though without a way to reach you we may not be able to continue a search.
How long we keep it
We keep inquiries, applications, network signups and membership records for as long as they are useful for finding you an introduction, or until you ask us to remove them. At least once a year we review what we hold, ask network members whether they'd still like to be considered, and delete what we no longer need. Screening results are kept only as long as needed to make our decision and answer questions about it. We may keep a limited record longer where the law requires it, such as payment and tax records.
Your choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct anything that's wrong or out of date;
- delete your information, or remove you from our network;
- stop contacting you, or stop sharing your photos with potential matches.
Email connect@thestandardfl.com from the address you gave us, or tell your matchmaker. We'll reply within 30 days, and we may ask you to confirm your identity first. Deleting your information ends any search on your behalf. Some laws give residents of certain states additional rights; we honor these requests for everyone.
How we protect it
The site is served only over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and forms are delivered to us securely. Access to your information is limited to our matchmakers, in password-protected accounts. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, but we take reasonable care to protect what you share with us. If a breach ever affected your information, we would notify you as the law requires.
Cookies and your browser
We don't use cookies for analytics, advertising or tracking. Our application saves your answers in your own browser as you type, so you can close the page and come back later. That copy stays on your device, is never sent to us until you submit, and is cleared when you submit. You can also clear it at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Because we don't track you, there's nothing for a browser's "Do Not Track" setting to turn off.
Adults only
Our services are only for adults 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18, and we delete it if we learn we have.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version here with a new date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we'll tell you before it takes effect.
